This is the cheapest way to avoid an expensive mistake.
An experienced editor in your genre reads the whole manuscript and writes you a report normally eight to twelve pages answering the question you cannot answer yourself: is this ready, and if not, what specifically is standing between it and ready?
The report covers structure and pacing, whether the central idea or story is landing, characterisation or argument, voice and consistency, market positioning, and a candid assessment of the manuscript's current state against published books in its category. It ends with a prioritised list of what to fix first.
It is deliberately not a sales document. Roughly a third of the assessments we deliver recommend more revision before any paid production, and say so plainly. Authors tell us that is the most useful thing we sell, because the alternative paying for a full edit on a manuscript that needs restructuring wastes both the money and the edit.
If you go on to book a package with us within six months, the assessment fee is credited against it.

Production timelines are estimates. Actual schedules vary with manuscript length, revision rounds, author response time and third-party retailer processing.

Send your manuscript
Upload the complete draft as a Word file or Google Doc, plus a one-paragraph description of what you are trying to achieve.

Editor matching
We assign an editor who works in your genre. You are told who they are and what they have worked on.

Full read and report
The editor reads the whole manuscript not a sample and writes the report over two to three weeks.

Report and call
You receive the report, then a 30-minute call to ask questions and work out what to do next.
If it is not, yes. That is the whole point of the service. The report will explain specifically why, and what would change the answer.
No. An assessment diagnoses; a developmental edit treats. The assessment tells you what needs work at the whole-book level. A developmental edit works through the manuscript in detail with chapter-level notes and in-line queries.
We do not, because the most common problems structure, pacing, whether the ending earns itself are invisible in a partial. If you only have three chapters, a coaching call is a better use of your money.
